“Stomp! Stomp! Rhinos!” offer psychoeducational methodologies, our second season focuses on the anxiety.
Season 2 of the preschool series Stomp! Stomp! Rhinos features emotional management exercises to help little ones relieve feelings of fear and anxiety. Audiences will enjoy more adventures with the charming Rhino siblings Noah, Ela and Ron. But, just as the fun gets going, fears and anxiety will arise. With the support of parents, Rhino Mom and Rhino Dad, the siblings will learn “time-in” exercises to help them relax like: facing your fears “step-by-step,” and observational mindfulness techniques. Then they will get back to the best part of their day - having fun the Little Rhinos’ way!
Today, the Knights of the Blueberry Kingdom (a.k.a. Noah, Ron and Ela) are embarking on a great quest. They will summit the Slippery Ice Mountain (a.k.a. the backyard slide) and cross the Green Lava Lake (a.k.a. the stone path) to harvest blueberries from the Royal Blueberry Bush. But when they arrive at their destination, the Royal Blueberry Bush appears to be inhabited by a dragon. Ron and Ela are too afraid to proceed. Noah explains that even the bravest knights are afraid sometimes and he offers them a calming exercise focused on tensing and releasing their muscles. After the exercise, the young knights feel prepared to face their fears. They approach the Blueberry bush once again, and to their delight, the bush is inhabited by…their family pet, Bobo the turtle!
Ela is playing on the patio when she hears a very loud, rumbling sound. From around the corner of the house, a large excavator rolls into view. Unfamiliar with big machines, Ela assumes it is a giant Robo-T-Rex. She runs into the house where Rhino Mom comforts her. Mom explains that it’s okay to be startled by something new and offers a deep breathing exercise she calls “Excavator Breaths.” Afterwards Ela is calm enough to investigate. She’s relieved to see Rhino Dad sitting in the driver’s seat and even agrees to climb up and sit on his lap. Ela and the audience now understand that Rhino Dad’s job is to run heavy machinery and that he is busy digging a large hole that will become a pond for the family to enjoy.

The Rhino Family is taking some time off to enjoy their new pond. Noah plays with a remote-controlled toy boat, but when Ron takes his turn, he gets it stuck in the reeds. Noah jumps in the water to save his boat, but something jumps up onto his chest. It’s just a little frog, but Noah rushes off in a panic. Noah, it seems, is very afraid of frogs. Concerned, Rhino Dad joins Noah and offers a relaxation song that says it’s always best to “face your fears, step by step.” With Rhino Dad’s help, Noah takes one small step closer to the frog, and then another. Finally, Noah lies on his stomach and faces the frog up close. Later, Noah relaunches his toy boat and the young frog jumps onboard.
Noah has a new friend named Max. Max is a cheetah and does everything FAST! When Max comes over to play, Noah and Ela have a blast, but Max’s big energy makes Ron feel upset and shy. And when Max plays with Ron’s Sir Dino toy without permission, it makes Ron feel even more anxious. After Ron retreats to the house, Rhino Dad encourages Ron to do a “Superhero Affirmation” exercise, in which Ron imagines himself posing and acting like a brave hero. After the exercise is complete, Ron feels his confidence come back. Using the visual and physical imagery he’s just learned, Ron is able to stand tall and feel strong. He heads back outside with a new attitude. Ron meets Max and then he challenges Max to a run race around the yard.
Tence and relax musclesTensing and relaxing the muscles helps children release built-up physical tension. When body is calmer, the mind becomes calmer as well. Turning this technique into a song makes it even more engaging—children can move, sing, and have fun while learning a valuable coping skill at the same time.
